Footbo challenge: Spain wins another Euro 2008 game!

2008-07-24 by Shu

EURO 2008 finished almost a month ago, but Spain’s success continues.

During the EURO CUP 2008 tournament, we invited a few European bloggers to experience the new emerging football social network Footbo.com and make their own predictions about the final match while they were at it. Now it’s time to reveal the final winner.

After looking at all of the predictions we received, I am pleased to announce that the winner of the prediction challenge is our Spanish BuzzAngel Noel Tellez Barbero. Noel is from Córdoba and blogs on http://futbolclub.es, a 100% football blog.

Congratulations Noel! A fantastic weekend package to London, with an opportunity to play in a penalty shoot-out game against Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Manuel Almunia, awaits you!! Are you ready? :)

By the way, for all you football fans, the next football season is just around the corner. The footbo team is working very hard at creating a new set of exciting features, so please stay tuned and check it out for yourself.

EURO 2008: Feel the rush, the official mascot song by Shaggy

2008-06-02 by Cordula

June is here, and with it two very pleasant perspectives. Firstly, we might expect some sun. Secondly, there’s the long-awaited EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland – only 5 more days till kick-off! Yes, we know that this may still seem long, and it’s not exactly sunny today either. So here’s something to cheer you up: one of the official EURO 2008 mascot songs, “Feel the Rush” (the other is called “Like a superstar”, and both are performed by Shaggy). The mascots are called Trix and Flix, by the way, and they look as if they were the brothers of Fix and Foxi.

No, we don’t claim that this is the greatest hit we ever heard (actually, we find it a bit lame, to be honest), but at least it brings some summer feeling. Although the clip would make more sense for a world cup, wouldn’t it? I don’t really get the connection between sandy beaches and Austria, but then again, like most things in life football is not about logic…

EURO 2008: Who should I cheer for?

2008-05-29 by Cordula

Good question. Who DO you actually cheer for when your national football team did not qualify for the EURO 2008? This is especially hard for Britons this year, as neither England, Scotland, Wales nor Northern Ireland got in… (although I sincerely doubt that they would have cheered for Wales anyway). So, who should they support then? Italy, because pizza is really a great invention? Germany, because their national team captain Michael Ballack usually plays for Chelsea? Or maybe Sweden, because blond is beautiful? Hmm…

As so often the answer can be found on the internet. On whoshouldicheerfor you are provided with all the data you need to take a balanced decision. You feel that the environment ought to be protected? Support the team of the country with least CO2 emissions then. You are an inveterate pacifist? Start booing when the country with the highest military spending enters the pitch (no, unfortunately the USA don’t take part). And if you simply like to be happy you might want to cheer for the happiest country. Or rather the unhappiest, come to that. Or even better, for all, because everyone deserves to be happy… Whatever you do, it’s your choice – so go ahead and cheer, it will make you happy, too!
