Holding together, blogging together!

2008-02-15 by Shu in What's hot... what's not

Since the coming 29th Olympic games are in Beijing, Chinese have been expressing high expectations on 2008. While at the beginning of 2008, when all the Chinese are happily preparing for Chinese lunar new year, the advent of a historical snow havoc in half a century in China was beyond everyone’s expectation.

Starting on the 10th of January 2008 until 6th of February 2008, a series of blizzard hit 17 central and southern provinces of China which never knew so extreme weather in winter.

What is worse, the blizzard fell during “Chunyun”, the busiest travelling period when dozens of millions of Chinese are struggling to reach their homes around Chinese lunar new year. Constant snows and freezing rains broke the electrical and transportation system, dozens of thousands of people were left stranded at railway stations, highways and airports.

China spared no efforts in combating the snow disaster, while blogs have emerged as one of the best UGC platforms to play an important role on broadcasting this special event.

Many Chinese BSPs (blog service provider) have set up special channels to expose those related posts together. The texts, pictures and videos created by bloggers were presenting the real scenes and stories in the snow-plagued spots and encouraging people to hold together and fight together against the disaster.

If you have no idea how severe this snow havoc was, here comes a user generated video with touching images and warm melody.
