Blogbuzzter #3: Sex and the City, Levi’s and Pork and Beans

2008-05-30 by Cordula dans Blogbuzzter

May is nearly over, so it’s time again to treat you to our blogbuzzter! The latest buzz is of course the launch of the

  • “Sex and the City” film: Long-awaited, the movie will finally come to US cinemas today, and the most burning question of its fans will be answered: Will Carry marry Mr Big? Get carried away, guys!
  • Levi’s backflip: Sport is in. Not only did we get to see Kobe Bryant stunt-jumping over a pool full of living snakes, but these guys also amused us by jumping into a pair of Levi’s. Hats off!
  • Pork and beans: The latest clip by Weezer brings back all the YouTube stars that we met in the South Park video: Numa Numa Guy, Afro Ninja, Leave Britney Alone, Chocolate Rain, Daft Hands…
  • Facebook in real life: What would you do if people you haven’t met in decades started poking you and leaving messages on your front door? Hmm… reality can be scary sometimes.
  • The exotic buzz of the month: Not a pleasant occasion, but an encouraging buzz. After the disastrous earthquake in China a wave of support rolled through the Chinese web. Bloggers adopted a banner to show their solidarity with the victims, and during 3 days of national mourning all major Chinese portals sites appeared in black and white. Ever wondered what patriotism meant?

Wonder Girls - a Korean girl band hits the charts

2008-05-30 by Reina dans What we like

In 2007, the biggest buzz in South Korea was neither the negotiations with North Korea nor the presidential elections. It was the Wonder Girls.

The Wonder Girls are a girl band of JYP, one of the most famous Korean entertainment agencies. People were addicted to the 5 teenage girls dressed in retro style and dancing on the stage.

This was the song “Tell Me” that remained on the top of the Korean charts for a long time. Do you want to know the lyrics? Well… are you serious? You are really expecting something like….. lyrics? Send me an email if you really want to know.

Honestly, they are aesthetically pleasing, even for a lady with a very dry sense of humour like me. However, I’m WONDERING: if my daughter was a high school student with a body shaped for minimum size dresses, and she was egging on the fantasies of others - would I be happy? I don’t think so.

South Park: create your own charakter

2008-05-30 by Cordula dans What's hot... what's not

southpark.pngYou like South Park, the American Emmy award-winning cult series on Comedy Central that has already parodied stars like Michael Jackson and Paris Hilton? Then you will probably adore South Park Studio. On this website you can design your own South Park character. Just follow the instructions and assemble the bits. Like this for example (no, we did not try to depict any member of our team here…). Have fun!

EURO 2008: Who should I cheer for?

2008-05-29 by Cordula dans What we like

Good question. Who DO you actually cheer for when your national football team did not qualify for the EURO 2008? This is especially hard for Britons this year, as neither England, Scotland, Wales nor Northern Ireland got in… (although I sincerely doubt that they would have cheered for Wales anyway). So, who should they support then? Italy, because pizza is really a great invention? Germany, because their national team captain Michael Ballack usually plays for Chelsea? Or maybe Sweden, because blond is beautiful? Hmm…

As so often the answer can be found on the internet. On whoshouldicheerfor you are provided with all the data you need to take a balanced decision. You feel that the environment ought to be protected? Support the team of the country with least CO2 emissions then. You are an inveterate pacifist? Start booing when the country with the highest military spending enters the pitch (no, unfortunately the USA don’t take part). And if you simply like to be happy you might want to cheer for the happiest country. Or rather the unhappiest, come to that. Or even better, for all, because everyone deserves to be happy… Whatever you do, it’s your choice – so go ahead and cheer, it will make you happy, too!

Sex and the City - the movie: Get Carried Away!

2008-05-28 by Cordula dans What's hot... what's not

Today and the “Sex and the City” movie will be officially launched in the UK, and on May 30 in the USA. Finally, as the fans of the hugely popular HBO series will probably say…

The adventures of the four New York fashion freaks Carry (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), stumbling through the metropolitan jungle in Manolo Blahniks, sipping Martini and experiencing all the ups and downs life has to offer when you have far too much money in your pocket and no essential worries at all, have fascinated viewers across the globe.

The film’s preview was a success. But why did it take place in London and not in New York? Bizarre decision… Anyway this is probably not the questions true fans of the series are keen to know the answer to, but: Will Carry finally marry Mr. Big (played by Chris Noth)? And who is going to die in the film? If you live in the UK you can find it out tonight. The others need a little more patience, but until then they can console themselves with the trailer:

I’m not sure that this is going to be the greatest film of all times, but as we all know: glamour and sex sell…
